National Night Out is a nationwide community-building event, and Arlington Heights has received national recognition for its version every year since 2005. Held at North School Park from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on July 29, the evening brings together residents, local police, firefighters, and community organizations for a few hours of real face time — the kind that goes beyond the usual wave-from-the-driveway neighborliness.
Expect family entertainment, police K9 demonstrations, food trucks, fire truck and police vehicle displays, giveaways, and interactive activities. The Arlington Heights Police Department and Fire Department both have a strong presence, and it's a genuine opportunity to meet the people who serve the community in a relaxed, family-friendly setting. Block parties and neighborhood gatherings throughout the village also tie into the national event.
National Night Out is free and open to everyone. One note: pets are not allowed at the event due to the K9 demonstrations and crowd safety. North School Park is at 307 N. Dunton Avenue with street parking available on surrounding blocks. For questions, contact the Arlington Heights Police Department non-emergency line at 847-368-5300.
