Community Open House

The Community Open House is an annual event hosted by the Village of Arlington Heights Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments at the Public Works Facility at 222 N. Ridge Avenue. The event invites residents of all ages to get an inside look at how village services operate. Attendees can get up close to village vehicles and heavy equipment, meet village staff and police K-9 units, watch live demonstrations, try on firefighter gear, and learn about public safety programs and infrastructure.

Past events have featured Touch-a-Truck stations where kids can climb into fire engines, police vehicles, snowplows, and other municipal equipment. The police department brings out its K-9 unit for meet-and-greet sessions, and the fire department runs demonstration scenarios that show how they respond to emergencies. Drone demonstrations and interactive public safety games round out the experience. Staff from all three departments are on hand to answer questions and talk about their day-to-day work, making it one of the most engaging community education events on the village calendar.

The Community Open House runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The event is free and open to the public. The Public Works Facility is located just north of downtown Arlington Heights on Ridge Avenue.
