The Ability Celebration is a community event dedicated to inclusion, accessibility, and celebrating people of all abilities. Held at the Camelot Community Center at 1005 E. Suffield Drive, this event brings together families, individuals, and organizations for an afternoon of adaptive recreation activities, entertainment, and community connection. The Arlington Heights Park District, in partnership with the Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA), organizes the event to spotlight the programs and resources available for residents with disabilities throughout the year.
Attendees can expect hands-on activity stations, adaptive games, sensory-friendly activities, live entertainment, resource tables, and food. NWSRA, a cooperative of 17 park districts, provides year-round therapeutic recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities, and the Ability Celebration serves as a showcase for those opportunities. Local organizations, service providers, and advocacy groups set up resource tables where families can learn about programs, therapies, and recreational opportunities available in the Arlington Heights area and the broader northwest suburbs. The event's layout and pacing are planned to accommodate different sensory and mobility needs.
The Ability Celebration runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The event is free and open to the public. Camelot Community Center has a parking lot on site. For more information, contact the Arlington Heights Park District at 847-577-3000 or visit their website.
